Sebastian Vettel qualifies the dismissal of Nyck de Vries as “harsh”

The news surprised the public with its form. It only took about ten races for Red Bull to part ways with Nyck de Vries. The Dutchman clearly did not convince Helmut Marko and the other officials of the Austrian team. They reproached him for driving three tenths slower than Yuki Tsunoda.

The Formula E world champion didn’t have time to prove himself and was replaced by Daniel Ricciardo. This change, so early in the season, didn’t sit well with everyone. Including Sebastian Vettel, who previously belonged to the Red Bull family.

“I have to be honest, I would say that I am torn,” he admitted at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. “I am very happy for Daniel, very happy. I really like him, of course I have raced with him, and I saw him during his test [at Silverstone]. I am very, very happy for him.”

« On the other hand, we must also be honest. It is obviously regrettable for Nyck, the way it ends. I think he had a great opportunity. Maybe things didn’t go as he hoped, or as people hoped. But it’s also a bit tough when the end is so sudden. It’s brutal. »

Nyck de Vries, a recognized driver

The four-time world champion hopes that the Dutchman will quickly bounce back and that this setback will have no impact on his future career. The German highlights Nyck de Vries’ track record and believes that he is recognized in the automotive industry.

« Maybe these ten races didn’t go as well as they could have. We don’t know why, first of all, from the outside, and secondly, he is still a very good driver. So we have to understand that it’s very tough for him, and I hope people won’t see this as a failure. »
