Crucial improvements for Alfa Romeo at Silverstone

Two points in Spain thanks to Guanyu Zhou and one point in Canada with Valtteri Bottas finishing 10th, that gave Alfa Romeo a good start to this season. But in Austria, everything came to a halt. Zhou finished 12th and Bottas 15th, failing to score any points. Worse yet, they were overtaken in the constructor standings by Haas and the magnificent performance of Nico Hülkenberg in the sprint race. Now in 8th place with just a two-point lead over Williams, Alfa Romeo hopes to bounce back at Silverstone with new parts brought to the car.

“We are heading to Great Britain this week, after a tough weekend in Austria, where our performance did not live up to what we had shown in the previous races,” said the Sauber Group’s General Manager and representative of Alfa Romeo F1, Alessandro Alunni Bravi.

Months of work

Improvements are coming for Alfa Romeo, who hopes to return as soon as possible to the top 10 and erase this poor performance in Austria. We must remain positive: we are bringing a new important package to Silverstone, which the Hinwil team has been working hard on in recent months, and which, we hope, will help us return to the top 10, said Alessandro Alunni Bravi.

A week after Austria, other teams will also be bringing improvements to Silverstone in an effort to come back or stay in the game. Alfa Romeo is aware of the progress made by others and knows that the new parts on the car will be crucial for the end of this European tour. We have seen how the improvements have been crucial for our main competitors to take a step forward: this will be our main objective for the second stage of this back-to-back, said Alunni Bravi.

The representative of Alfa Romeo F1 Team is confident about these improvements made. « We remain confident and eager to show that Austria was not our weekend, but that we still have the ability to fight in the pack and quickly change the course of things. »

Bottas describes Silverstone as a “crucial” weekend

For the Finn, who is starting to see his future a bit threatened due to his performances, these new developments will be crucial for his team’s performance.

« I’m looking forward to racing at Silverstone this weekend, another timeless classic on the calendar. We are bringing a new package that should help us regain the form we showed last month. We know the areas we need to work on to improve our performance, and everyone in the team, both on the circuit and in Hinwil, has put in their efforts », announced the former Mercedes driver. It’s certainly hard work, but the evolutions will have to work for the team and the drivers to be rewarded. Alfa Romeo is not the only team bringing evolutions.

« “It will be crucial to obtain these improvements from the first testing sessions, in order to get back in the race,” Bottas emphasized. “First responses will be available on Friday for Alfa Romeo.”
