Günther Steiner talks about his future in F1: “I don’t have any long-term plans.”
Team principal of the Haas F1 Team since its arrival in the top category of motor racing, Günther Steiner explained how he envisions his future in Formula 1.
Günther Steiner has been leading the American team since its arrival in F1 in 2016. The team has experienced many highs, but especially lows, in the past seven years.
However, when asked how long he expected to stay in the sport, the Italian indicated that he did not worry much about the long term. “I don’t have any long-term plans,” he said on the F1 Nation podcast.
I don’t want to achieve anything in particular. Obviously, I want to succeed with Haas, but I’m not looking towards the future.
« In the immediate future, I am comfortable. I believe that Gene [Haas] is comfortable with me, or at least I hope so. He hasn’t told me anything else, so in that regard, it should be fine. »
F1 is very demanding for Steiner
Despite Günther Steiner’s good position at the helm of Haas, he acknowledges that the demands of Formula 1 mean that there will come a time when he will want to step back.
“« It’s very demanding for the body and the mind, and there comes a time when everyone needs to take a step back, and that will come for me too »,” Steiner said. “« But for now, I’m in a good situation. I love what I do and I continue to do it ».”
There will be a moment when I will say “I need to take a step back” because it may be becoming too much physically, mentally, whatever. But for now, I feel good.
Since joining the discipline, the best result achieved by the Italian with Haas is a fourth place, notably obtained by Romain Grosjean in 2018 in Austria.
