For Sainz, it is not impossible to see the rivals catching up to Red Bull
While Mercedes, Ferrari, and Red Bull struggle to compete with Red Bull, Carlos Sainz offers a glimmer of hope to fans who are waiting for a bit more spectacle in the pursuit of victory.
Despite a total domination since the beginning of the 2023 season, Carlos Sainz believes that it is not impossible for rival teams to catch up with Red Bull.
Verstappen’s victories have been consecutive this season, with five wins in seven races, which raises the question of whether Red Bull can win all the races on the calendar. This achievement has never been accomplished in the history of F1. The closest team to achieving 100% was McLaren in 1988 with the MP4/4 (15 wins out of 16 races).
The Austrian team is optimistic about the prospects of becoming the first team in F1 history to win every race in a season, but Carlos Sainz thinks it is more likely that their rivals will catch up to Red Bull.
« I don’t think it’s impossible. Every weekend there is a spot available on the podium if the two Red Bulls dominate,” Sainz said. « There’s always that spot, that’s why we fight every weekend. Charles and I are in the mix, as well as Fernando, Lance, and the two Mercedes. It’s a constant battle.
Improvements to be realized
During the Spanish Grand Prix, Ferrari introduced the first improvements that are part of a conceptual change, taking inspiration from what Red Bull and Aston Martin are doing.
Sainz believes that the constant battle for the last spot on the podium will allow teams to catch up with Red Bull.
« Aston has the advantage and is normally the strongest team in the race. That’s why we are trying to improve our car », said the Spaniard.
There have also been races where, in qualifying, we managed to be in the mix with Red Bull. But I think Red Bull will stay ahead for a few more races before someone can really challenge them a bit because they are at a very, very high level. Well done to them, as they have produced a truly high-performing car.
