Nyck de Vries fully discovering F1

The Dutch driver from AlphaTauri recently spoke about his adaptation to F1, specifically mentioning the difference between the world of Formula 1 and the other categories where de Vries has raced.

Nyck de Vries fully discovering F1

Nyck de Vries was the F2 World Champion as well as the Formula E Champion. He also had the honor of racing in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, achieving a best result of 4th place in the LMP2 category last year with TDS Racing.

His story in F1 seemed to start in the best way possible. After several test sessions behind the wheel of different race cars, he got his chance last September in Monza where he finished 9th. This performance caught the eye of Helmut Marko, who subsequently offered him a seat.

Cursed beginnings

After seven races, he is one of only two drivers, along with Logan Sargeant, who haven’t scored any points this season yet. Questions about his future within the team have been raised, and de Vries acknowledges that the start of the season hasn’t been what he hoped for.

“I think there were moments where I was competitive and showed good potential, but I failed to turn it into results, especially in Monaco or Barcelona,” De Vries stated.

Regarding pressure, I believe that as a pilot, you can always strive for survival. Because throughout your career, you always need to perform well and deliver results to continue your career successfully.

These statements corroborate how specific F1 is. The stakes surrounding this sport are incomparable to those of other championships. The N°21 is not unrelated to it.

« I don’t really think that the pressure is different today than it has been at any other point in my career. But I can acknowledge that Formula 1 has been very different from all the other championships I’ve participated in. »
