According to Helmut Marko, no one comes close to Red Bull at the moment
Helmut Marko gave his opinion on the development of Red Bull's rivals. According to him, no one is sitting at the table of the Austrian team.
Helmut Marko believes that Red Bull’s lead in the Formula 1 championship has been strengthened thanks to the tightening grip among the three teams behind them.
The start of Red Bull’s 2023 season forced the other teams to sound the alarm, knowing that Mercedes, Ferrari, and Aston Martin are mainly vying for the third step of the podium.
For now, the best among the others is Fernando Alonso. The Aston Martin driver has often been the closest challenger to the Red Bulls, but the Spaniard is 70 points behind the championship leader, Max Verstappen.
Every Grand Prix, the title of “best team” outside of Red Bull constantly changes. However, since the Spanish Grand Prix, it is Mercedes that has taken the lead over Aston Martin, with a redesigned W14.
Helmut Marko believes that the battle between Mercedes, Aston Martin, and Ferrari has only helped the championship leaders. The updates from our competitors have only brought a change in the fight for second place, stated the Austrian.
But without wanting to be arrogant, they didn’t really get closer to us, they just took turns. And once again, it’s a good thing for us because our lead in the championship grows with each race.
There is Verstappen… and the others
While at the beginning of the season, Sergio Perez could be seen as a rival for the World Championship, gradually Max Verstappen took advantage of his teammate’s setbacks in qualifying, especially in Australia, Monaco, and Spain.
Thanks to his victory at the Spanish Grand Prix, the Dutch driver now has a 53-point lead over Perez in the drivers’ championship, which is more than two wins ahead. « «Did you see how Max set the fastest lap with old tires at the end?” highlighted Helmut Marko. « He’s from another planet right now. He has achieved a superiority that we have never had before. »
He always wants to push it to the limit, as evidenced by the warnings for exceeding the track boundaries. But that’s the hallmark of a great driver. He always rises to the occasion.
