According to Leclerc, Ferrari is suffering more than expected
Charles Leclerc continues his difficult start to the season. The Monegasque driver once again finished outside the points with a struggling Ferrari in Barcelona. He mentions a start to the season worse than expected.
Ferrari, especially Charles Leclerc, were in great difficulty during this Spanish Grand Prix. From qualifying, the Monegasque and his Ferrari found themselves trapped and could only finish in 19th place. The Monegasque still suffers from the main problem of his car, even more so on the Barcelona circuit.
A Ferrari overheating
The Ferrari puts its tires through torture. Carlos Sainz experienced the same feeling as his Monegasque teammate. The overheating of the Ferrari’s tires makes it difficult for the drivers to put in a great effort. The Scuderia’s race car reacts poorly and too quickly to high temperatures.
“I think we really need to focus on trying to reach the peak performance of the tires. We need to learn how to better manage our tyres so that we don’t get caught off guard and can manage our races as we want,” said Charles Leclerc.
Tires are very important in Formula 1. This year, despite their increased resistance compared to previous seasons, tires still suffer by quickly heating up and degrading rapidly. Some teams manage this problem better, like Red Bull, while others are dependent on this issue, like Ferrari.
(T) Two or three degrees make all the difference in the balance. This weekend, we suffered a lot because we were completely outside the performance window. The temperatures were too high, revealed the Monegasque.
The difficult start to the season continues
This is the third time this season that Charles Leclerc finishes outside of the points after his two retirements in Australia and Bahrain during the opening round of the championship. A tough realization for a Scuderia that aimed higher. The competition is also tightening behind the Red Bulls.
“To be honest, we suffer much more than expected,” Charles Leclerc declared after the Spanish Grand Prix.
Now, three stables are competing with Ferrari. Mercedes and Aston Martin seem to be superior to the Italian stable. Alpine is making a strong comeback with good recent performances. Ferrari is counting on the development of its race car to move forward, something that had been attempted in Barcelona.
We had made improvements. We already felt a little better with the car. But it’s still not a real source of satisfaction. We still lack rhythm. Especially in terms of speed during the race, said Charles Leclerc.
