Esteban Ocon satisfied with the weekend despite a slight lack of pace in the race
It is the third consecutive time that both Alpine drivers finish in the points. Esteban Ocon is satisfied but wants to do more.
The Spanish Grand Prix took place without incident, with no retirements and no safety cars deployed. Esteban Ocon opted for a two-stop strategy, using all three tyre compounds. The Normandy driver fought throughout the race for a place within the top six, ultimately finishing in eighth position, just 5 seconds behind Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll.
However, when compared to previous races, Alpine was much closer to the Silverstone team this time. « We leave Barcelona with both drivers in the points, so I think we can be satisfied with our work this weekend. I ultimately finish 8th and I don’t think we could have done much more today, our race pace was perhaps a bit limited compared to our competitors who finished ahead », Esteban Ocon believes.
Strong on Saturday, decent on Sunday
Originally, Alpine qualified in P4 and P7, but the double penalty imposed on Pierre Gasly allowed his teammate to start in sixth place. For Alpine, it’s the second consecutive week that one of the two drivers achieves P4 in the fast lap exercise. For Esteban Ocon, there is a significant difference between Saturday and Sunday.
We will certainly see how we can improve this, but overall, it was a strong Saturday and a decent Sunday for us. We can be proud of the past two weeks, but we know that there is work to be done to continue moving in the right direction.
