Two days before the Grand Prix, only 82% of the tickets have been sold in Imola
Back on the calendar since 2020, the circuit is one of the two home circuits for the tifosi, but for now it is not sold out and only 82% of the tickets have been sold.
The number of tickets sold so far barely exceeds 82%: at least 160,000 spectators are expected at the circuit over the weekend. So, the good news is that there are still last-minute tickets available.
Last year the situation was very different, Ferrari had scored 103 points in 4 races and Charles Leclerc arrived at Imola as a solid leader in the world championship with 2 wins and 1 second place. In 2023, it’s much more perilous… The Scuderia currently has 78 points with an additional sprint weekend. A worrying observation for Ferrari that is making the tifosi furious. Perhaps enough to motivate some to stay in front of their television.
Located 30 kilometers from the city of Bologna, the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari circuit will likely host the Formula 1 for the 6th round of the Formula 1 World Championship. However, there is some doubt about the holding of the race due to the weather conditions.
Stefano Domenicali, current president of F1 and former team principal of the Scuderia, declared his love for this circuit, as he was born in Imola and studied in Bologna: “This is a special edition because it has been 70 years since Imola was built. I was born and raised here, which is why this circuit holds a special place in my heart. But it is also special for Formula 1, as this circuit has written important chapters in motorsport history. It is where my passion for racing was born. This year, a new qualifying format will be implemented. Drivers will have to use hard tires in Q1, medium tires in Q2, and soft tires in Q3. This will make the qualifying day even more interesting. It will be a great celebration on and off the track. With a Fanzone full of fantastic activities and the warm welcome that Emilia-Romagna is known for. Therefore, I wish Imola a happy 70th anniversary.”
As a comparison to a Grand Prix removed from the calendar, the Paul Ricard circuit was sold out during the 2022 French Grand Prix, with 200,000 spectators over the course of the 3 days.
Now we can only hope that the weather conditions will allow us to see how this new format performs in qualifying, on a circuit where the stands will not be completely filled.
