Christian Horner wonders where Mercedes and Ferrari have gone

It’s a 100% for Red Bull. Five races, five wins, plus the sprint in Baku. Only a pole position escaped them in Azerbaijan. Such performance is synonymous with a considerable lead for the Austrian team in the standings. They have nearly twice as many points as Aston Martin (102 against 224).

Faced with this gap, Christian Horner, the team boss, is wondering about the other teams. « Five races, five victories, plus the Sprint [in Baku], four doubles… we’ve never had a start like this. We’re wondering a bit where the others are », he said to SkySports after the Miami Grand Prix.

No development stop

« We had a normal stage [in terms of development] during the winter, and I think we should rather ask where Ferrari and Mercedes have gone? They are working hard, I’m sure, and they will have significant improvements in Europe. »

Despite this dominance, the British does not plan to decrease or stop the development of its single-seater cars. « There is always something that we can improve. »

« The team operates at such a high level, it’s not just what you see here [on the track], it’s also about what happens behind the scenes, the support at the factory… the way the whole team works is just phenomenal. »

If Red Bull continues at this pace, it could become the first team to surpass the 1,000-point mark in a season.
