The Shanghai circuit renews its Grade 1 FIA license for the 2024 season
The Formula 1 aims to go to China as early as next year. The Shanghai circuit has just been given the green light by the FIA, who has confirmed the type 1 license of the circuit, which is necessary to host a Formula 1 event.
It has now been since 2019 since a Formula 1 car has raced on the Shanghai track. The main reason is related to the Covid-19 pandemic, but not only. The circuit that has hosted the race in China since 2004 has been unable to maintain its Grade 1 license due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The previous authorization had a validity of three years, expiring in 2019. The circuit has been confirmed by the FIA – International Automobile Federation as suitable to host Formula 1.
For reasons related to the pandemic, the FIA representatives were not able to carry out their inspections beforehand. Originally, it was supposed to be on the F1 calendar in 2023, however, as expected, it was canceled due to the lockdown of certain regions of the country at the beginning of the year.
However, next year, all the conditions will normally be met for the Chinese Grand Prix to make its big comeback in the F1 calendar. And if the Grand Prix takes place next year, the promoter has already announced that special events will be organized to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the first Formula 1 race in the country.
