Barcelona F2 tests: Jack Doohan the fastest on the first day

This Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, Formula 2 is in Barcelona for testing sessions. These mid-season tests bring together drivers from the category to continue the work that has been started. During the morning session, Arjun Maini set the fastest time with a 1:24.943, ahead of Jehan Daruvala and Ralph Boschung. Jack Doohan had already finished just off the podium with a strong fourth time.

Martins and Pourchaire far from the pace with ART GP

In the afternoon, the Alpine Academy driver confirmed his good pace by setting the fastest time of the entire day, in 1:24.177. The Australian, who was on track at Monza this Tuesday for a day of F1 testing with Alpine, where he is a reserve driver, managed to go faster than everyone else. It should be noted that Victor Martins and Théo Pourchaire finished last in the afternoon session, almost 5 seconds behind Jack Doohan.

Thirteenth in the Formula 2 standings, Jack Doohan has only one podium this year in the category. This day can therefore serve him to gain confidence. « This day was for building confidence. I will not set my hopes too high because these are only tests, and unfortunately, this performance does not occur during a race weekend. Our goal this week is to find out what’s wrong. »

A day to bounce back

After a disappointing start to the season, Jack Doohan must bounce back in order to compete at the top of the standings, his goal. « We’re getting there slowly but surely. I’m starting to regain the sensations of driving. I’m happy with today’s session and we have to keep going to reach greater heights. »

This difficult start to the season has caused Jack Doohan to lose confidence. The Australian has fallen into a negative spiral. The reserve driver for Alpine has had mechanical problems, which have prevented him from finishing in the position he desired. (e) I am happy to have regained the confidence I had at the beginning of the season. What I felt today was much better. But this is not a race weekend. I am eager to see what will happen when we are in a Grand Prix week.

Now, the Australian and his team want to focus on the rest of the season and bring as many points as possible from the race weekends. We just have to focus on ourselves. We have to make sure to maximize these tests and put ourselves in a good position to move forward.
