The Alfa Romeo drivers, overtaken by Haas, hope to catch up at Imola
Once again, the Swiss team couldn't fight for points in Miami. Guanyu Zhou couldn't do anything against the other cars in the midfield.
Another anonymous race for Alfa Romeo. Since the beginning of the season in Bahrain, appearances in the top 10 have been short-lived. Miami was no exception. Valtteri Bottas and Guanyu Zhou had a difficult Grand Prix in Florida and couldn’t compete to add a few points to their tally.
Despite this underperformance, Guanyu Zhou is trying to find something positive in this race. It’s better than last weekend [Baku], but tire management continues to affect our performance, especially with a lot of fuel, he told the F1 website.
However, he nuanced his remarks and admitted to having difficulties fighting with the other cars he was battling with. Even the Haas seems to have a better pace than us. We had a great pace in one lap, but today in the race, everything was just different: the temperature, the grip, the way you have to manage the tires… it seemed more delicate to us.
The Chinese driver is counting on the upcoming improvements that will be made by his team in Imola, the location of the next race. This is also the case for his teammate, Bottas, who is eagerly awaiting the improvements in two weeks.
I am confident in the work we do as a team and I am looking forward to the next races. Our main goal should be to take that extra step forward to be competitive again. We will bring new parts to Imola, and I hope they will help us progress and get back in the fight for points. » explains the Finn.
The start of my race was rather good: we gained a few positions and were well within the points. I did my best to continue the fight and defend my position; unfortunately, we didn’t quite have the pace that we showed [on Saturday], when we managed to be competitive on a single lap.
Valterri Bottas finished 13th in the Grand Prix, in a fair manner, starting from 10th place. Despite a strong performance in qualifying, the Alfa Romeo lost a lot of ground during the race. I believe that our final position reflects where we currently stand, and we need to continue working to improve ourselves.
