Ricciardo wants to stay in shape in case of a return to F1 next season
Even though he is currently enjoying his year away from the F1 starting grid, Daniel Ricciardo aspires to make a comeback as early as 2024.
Daniel Ricciardo states that he will be able to make a return to the F1 grid next year, adding that he still has “unfinished business” in the sport.
After a disappointing 2021 season and an even worse 2022 season, Ricciardo has lost his seat at McLaren. With no other available seat in 2023, the Australian driver has accepted a reserve driver role at Red Bull, for whom he raced with distinction between 2014 and 2018, winning seven Grand Prix.
It is not rare to see Daniel Ricciardo in the Red Bull pit during Grand Prix weekends. Even though his desire to race in F1 again has not diminished, he is taking advantage of his year without driving. “I will be ready to put myself in a position to return to the grid next year,” said Ricciardo in an interview with Sky F1. “I am staying fit and taking some time for myself.”
I love playing sports, I enjoy being active, so I make sure not to lose shape. I really like this year and I think I will continue to enjoy it, but next year, I believe I will certainly be eager to get back to the starting line and participate in the competition.
A return to Haas?
Without a contract confirmation for Kevin Magnussen at Haas next season, the Australian driver could make his return to F1 within the American team. However, this would require discussions between Ricciardo and the team director. Indeed, last season, when the opportunity arose, Ricciardo had shown little interest in the Haas team. Nevertheless, discussions seem to have already begun for 2024 if Kevin Magnussen were to lose his seat.
