Alonso reveals how he watched Stroll’s overtaking move in Miami
Fernando Alonso took the time to focus on his teammate Lance Stroll's overtaking at turn 1 of the Miami Grand Prix.
Fernando Alonso revealed how he witnessed his teammate Lance Stroll overtaking Alex Albon during the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix.
While Alonso was heading towards a fourth podium in five races, on the 49th lap out of 57, he called in on the radio after Stroll’s move to inquire about the position the Canadian driver had taken after overtaking him on the outside of turn 1.
He added “it was a great move”, but the position didn’t earn any points since Stroll only climbed to 13th place.
And as is customary, Alonso explained that he was watching the Grand Prix while piloting it.
« I think that on this circuit, we have large television screens in certain low-speed turns, explained double champion Alonso to the media.
It was therefore very easy to follow the race on television. I saw an overtaking and I was curious to know what position it was in.
It was a somewhat unexpected and solitary race for us. We thought we would have a more challenging race.
For his part, Stroll lamented a “difficult” race during which he was forced to fight after being eliminated in Q1 during qualifying.
He found himself stuck in a DRS train, implementing the same Hard-Medium strategy as race winner Max Verstappen.
However, the lack of tire degradation made overtaking difficult, limiting him to 12th place at the flag for his first non-scoring finish this season, while Alonso took third place.
