Red Bull could become the first team to score 1,000 points in a season

Weekends follow each other and look alike for Red Bull. Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez have scored 180 points out of 191, an idyllic start for the Austrian team that could become the first team to score 1,000 points in a season.

Red Bull could become the first team to score 1,000 points in a season

Each victory is no longer necessarily a surprise given the great dominance of Red Bull. This season may be the one for breaking all records for the bull team. With Sergio Perez’s two victories and Max Verstappen’s double podium in the streets of Baku, Red Bull scored 57 out of 59 possible points that weekend. This means that they are still capable of becoming the first team to score over 1,000 points in a season this year. This would represent a significant increase compared to last season’s 759 points.

Several factors play in their favor

Red Bull already has 180 points, compared to 113 at the same stage last year. In 2023, there is an additional round on the calendar and three other sprint events, which represent an additional 88 points. Furthermore, the advantage in terms of performance is much greater than it was 12 months ago.

However, since the revolution in 2010 and the new points system, no team has managed to do better than 765 points (Mercedes in 2016).

911 points are available in the remaining races, so the world champion team could even afford a double DNF in one of them and still surpass the 1,000-point mark.

Perez equals the greatest, Verstappen surpasses Ayrton Senna

Perez’s sixth victory in a Grand Prix allows him to equal world champions John Surtees and Jochen Rindt, as well as Tony Brooks, Gilles Villeneuve, Jacques Laffite, Riccardo Patrese, and Ralf Schumacher. This also marks his 29th podium.

His teammate Verstappen was surely not satisfied with finishing second for the 28th time in his Formula 1 career, but this weekend he achieved his 81st podium finish, surpassing Ayrton Senna. With a 23rd consecutive points finish, there are now only three drivers who have had longer streaks than him (Hamilton 48, Räikkönen 27, and Schumacher 24).
