Relive in pictures the unlikely pit stop of Esteban Ocon
The catastrophe was narrowly avoided this Sunday in Azerbaijan! As Alpine driver Esteban Ocon was making his mandatory pit stop, he almost collided with photographers preparing for the podium ceremony.
Esteban Ocon believes that his accident in the pit lane during the Azerbaijan Formula 1 Grand Prix could have been a “major incident” as he narrowly avoided hitting a large group of photographers who were allowed to position themselves before the end of the race.
The Alpine driver was driving on hard tires, hoping for a late safety car to gain some points, but he was forced to make the mandatory pit stop in Formula 1 during the last lap of the race.
However, as he entered the pits, the entrance was blocked by photographers, officials, and other officials who were preparing for the podium ceremony, which made him brake to avoid a tragedy.
“Comment est-ce possible de faire ça ? On est en Formule 1 !” 😡

He safely returned to the pits and finished 15th, but admitted after the race that he was “scared” when he saw people blocking his way entering the pits. A weekend that the French team will definitely want to forget.
