Verstappen gives his dream F1 team
In a video for Mobil 1 The Grid, Max Verstappen shares his lineup for a Formula 1 team, including his top drivers and team principal from the current grid.
Max Verstappen played along with the game of composing his dream team, with the only constraints being to choose actors from the current grid and not include himself in the team. The Dutchman jokingly asks if he can be the head of the team as well as the driver (s). Can’t I be both the team boss and the driver?
After this joke, and more seriously, the Dutchman starts assembling his team: « Among the current people that I think capable of being the team director, I would always choose Christian [Horner] ». Not a very surprising choice when you know that under the British’s leadership, Max Verstappen has won the world championship two times in a row. Among the other current team directors, only Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has managed to win more titles than Christian Horner.
For the drivers, Verstappen took more time to think and opted for a duo mixing youth and experience. I think there are many good drivers, and I would probably choose an experienced driver. So I’ll go with Fernando [Alonso]. And then a young one by his side, I choose Lando [Norris].
The choice of drivers may surprise, as Verstappen does not choose his teammate Sergio Perez, who nevertheless finished third in last season’s standings, or even the seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, who also has a great deal of experience in F1.
