Carlos Sainz welcomes the arrival of Fred Vasseur

New stable, but same position. This Tuesday, December 13th, Frédéric Vasseur replaced Mattia Binotto as the director of Scuderia Ferrari. The Italian is thus ending a 30-year collaboration with the Maranello-based company.

His successor left Alfa Romeo, after five years at the helm of the team and as CEO of Sauber. At Ferrari, he will reunite with two drivers he launched and gave a chance to: Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz. The Spaniard is indeed pleased with the appointment of the Frenchman.

We hope that this will be a change for the better. Every time someone new arrives, they have an extra motivation and want to do well, for themselves and for the team. They should be given time to see how the team works, to know what changes are necessary.

Ferrari is very big and I know it will take time, it won’t happen overnight. I have heard very good things about [Vasseur]. I know him personally, he wanted to recruit me at Renault [in 2017]. I spoke to him yesterday, I called him and had my first contact as a Ferrari driver. I know he will do a good job.

On his side, Charles Leclerc had expressed understanding and readiness to give time to the new arrival. It will take some time to find one’s bearings in such a big team like Ferrari. I am quite confident that the transition will go smoothly, the Monegasque explained just before the FIA awards ceremony.

Frédéric Vasseur will, however, have the difficult task of restoring Ferrari’s glory after the challenging years of the Binotto era, particularly in 2022 when the prancing horse brand had the opportunity to regain the title.
