George Russell has beaten Hamilton in 2022 and is now aiming for the world championship title

His 2022 season has been brilliant and for good reason, he is the youngest driver in Formula 1 history to have competed alongside a seven-time world champion, already a great achievement. But this year he also won his first Grand Prix and finished the championship with a 35-point lead over his teammate Lewis Hamilton.

If the Mercedes W13 has been rebellious throughout the year, Mercedes will have made a leap forward during the United States Grand Prix in Austin by introducing a complete set of updates. Continuously improving, George Russell is now aiming for the world championship title. This is what he declared to Sky Sports microphone.

I feel absolutely ready to win a world championship.

George Russell happy to have beaten Lewis Hamilton

The Mercedes driver is happy to have beaten his teammate in his first year and states, “I suppose that if you had told me this at the beginning of the year, I would have been extraordinarily happy because if you beat Lewis Hamilton in a Mercedes, most of the time it means that you are the world champion,” he explains.

Despite everything, Russell considers the season to be extremely important in terms of the learning it has brought to the team. However, these 3 months of winter break will not be a walk in the park for the British driver.

“I am definitely going to have a very intense winter. I will work very hard with my team. Every person at the Mercedes factory will do their utmost to deliver a car capable of giving us a chance to beat them next season,” he declared.
