Alpine could put Logan Sargeant on the road this winter
Logan Sargeant has just finished his first Formula 2 season in 3rd place and will make his Williams debut in 2023. He will be the first American driver to race in Formula 1 since Alexander Rossi in 2015. Alpine could give him more experience by putting him behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car this winter.
The young American driver has already driven in Formula 1 with his new team during the young drivers’ tests at the Yas Marina circuit and during free practice sessions during this 2022 season. Alpine would be open to collaborating with Williams to allow Sargeant to drive ahead of the 2023 season. “We would not be against the idea of putting him in one of our old cars and letting him race,” declared Otmar Szafnauer to Autosport.com.
Maintaining good relationships.
If, when looking from an external point of view, this potential agreement between Williams and Alpine only benefits the English team, the boss of the Alpine team emphasizes the importance of having good relationships with the other teams present in Formula 1 so that they can potentially do something for your team in the future.
This would be a favor in return for Alpine, which would help Williams in turn. The Groove team had agreed to assist the French team this season with Oscar Piastri when Alpine was considering fielding him alongside Esteban Ocon.
Logan Sargeant had a solid season in Formula 2 with Carlin and finished 4th in the championship. He won the Anthoine Hubert trophy for being the best rookie in the Formula 1 feeder series in 2022.
