Charles Leclerc: Today was a good day;
Charles Leclerc finishes the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in second place to claim the 2022 vice-world champion title! Signing the end of a mixed season, Charles Leclerc oscillated between weariness, frustration and performance.
Having arrived in Abu Dhabi in second place, tied with Sergio Pérez with 290 points, the pressure was high for the Monegasque driver. The duel between the two drivers for the position of vice world champion was highly anticipated by the spectators.
Interviewed after the race, the Ferrari driver congratulates his team for effectively managing the tires, which paid off.
Today was the right day. It was necessary to execute it perfectly, especially in terms of tire management, and we did it perfectly and I am happy. It’s a good race before going on vacation. Maintaining the second place in the constructors’ championship and the drivers’ championship was the objective, and we have achieved it, so it’s quite positive and I hope we will take a step forward next year.
However, Charles Leclerc keeps a cool head in the face of a season full of obstacles and hopes to do better next season.
« It’s a little better but, well, we can’t hide that today Red Bull was still a step above. We executed perfectly and that was really the objective. We’ll have to work to find that performance that we’re missing. But overall, a positive outcome today despite a lot of pressure on our shoulders.
