Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel are two legends of Formula 1. They have made history with their victories and accomplishments on the track, but especially with the rivalry that opposed them in the early 2010s. The German driver won four consecutive world championships, but he often had to battle with a formidable rival who was then at Ferrari. Fernando Alonso often had a less performing car, but he was able to stand up to Sebastian Vettel, resulting in magnificent battles.
A mythical rivalry and an impressive record.
The 2010 season was the first that pitted the two men against each other at the top of the sport. Thanks to a better strategy and race management, Sebastian Vettel won his first world championship title in Abu Dhabi. In 2012, Alonso came close to winning his 3rd world championship title in Brazil. But that was without counting on Sebastian Vettel’s tenacity, who delivered a magnificent race to secure his third consecutive world championship title.
From 2010 to 2013, Sebastian Vettel won 4 consecutive World Championship titles. He impressed us with his magical qualifying laps and his duel with Fernando Alonso. The German driver left his mark on Formula 1 with 53 victories and 122 podium finishes. An impressive record achieved with Red Bull, Ferrari, and Aston Martin.
A special tribute
As he’s set to become Lance Stroll’s teammate next season, Fernando Alonso pays tribute to his former rival by wearing a special helmet this weekend. The helmet features the German flag stripes from Sebastian Vettel’s helmet. Fernando Alonso states on Instagram: “Danke Seb, one last time sharing the track with you. It will be emotional and sad at the same time, but I wish you the best for your next chapter.”
These years of struggle at the top have left a mark on Alonso, who considers them to be one of the most intense periods of his career.
I think that my career is going to be linked to Sebastian in some way because we fought for many things during the best seasons of our lives, probably. Even though the outcome was in his favor…, I think it’s going to be very connected.
