Kevin Magnussen disappointed by early retirement
The Dane started from pole position in the sprint race, which he finished in 8th place. With this grid position, he had high hopes for Sunday. But then Daniel Ricciardo came along.
He was the hero of Friday. Kevin Magnussen achieved, to everyone’s surprise, his first career pole position in Brazil. An event because it is also his team Haas’ first pole.
After a solid sprint race, finishing in 8th position, the Danish driver had high hopes for the main race on Sunday. However, after just a few corners, Daniel Ricciardo made contact with the back of the Haas, spinning it around. The car with number 20 then hit the McLaren, resulting in the retirement of both cars.
A situation that fed his frustration. « I think our car had a good pace all weekend… Daniel [Ricciardo] didn’t do it on purpose, but of course, it doesn’t serve anyone. But we will move forward », admits the poleman again.
« We are not always happy, but we were this weekend. It’s a shame that we couldn’t fully capitalize on it today because our car had a good pace this week.
Following this incident, Daniel Ricciardo was penalized with a three-place grid penalty for the start in Abu Dhabi. On the other hand, Haas is having a decent season as on the 2022 season, they have scored more points than in the previous three years (37 compared to 31).
