Alfa Romeo fined €1,000 for misplaced mechanic
At this Sunday's Brazilian Grand Prix, Alfa Romeo was fined €1,000 because a team member was judged to be in a « danger zone » in the pit lane, even though he was not involved in the pit stops.
The Brazilian Grand Prix will have been highly penalized. After the loss of three positions for driver Ricciardo following his collision with Magnussen, Pierre Gasly received a 5-second penalty, Norris for hitting Leclerc and Verstappen for the collision with Hamilton. Additionally, Alfa Romeo will also be fined €1,000.
As the Haas car of Mick Schumacher approached the pit lane and prepared to begin its pit stop, a member of the Alfa Romeo team entered the pit lane work area. The FIA stewards heard the team representative and examined the video from various angles. They assessed the situation as dangerous, as he was unreasonably close to the trajectory of the Haas car, especially considering he was not part of the pitstop crew.
Thus, Alfa Romeo is fined €1,000 for violating Article 12.2.1.h of the FIA International Sporting Code, which sanctions any dangerous act or failure to take reasonable measures resulting in a dangerous situation.
