Official: Nico Hülkenberg replaces Mick Schumacher at Haas for 2023
Discussions have been finalized between Hülkenberg and Haas. The team is replacing Mick Schumacher with Nico Hülkenberg for next season, announced a press release.
Nico Hülkenberg will drive in Formula 1 next year as a regular driver. The German will replace his compatriot, Mick Schumacher, whose results this season have not pleased his bosses. They were asking him to be more consistent and score more points, something he failed to do.
The son of the seven-time world champion had joined the American team two years ago. In his first year, he had outperformed his teammate Nikita Mazepin, but remained stuck at the back of the pack. In 2022, with a more competitive car, he couldn’t keep up with Kevin Magnussen’s pace.
The last time Nico Hülkenberg made a mark in F1 was at the beginning of the season in Bahrain, filling in for the ill Sebastian Vettel at Aston Martin. Nico Hülkenberg had the role of reserve driver for Aston Martin this season.
With the services of Nico Hülkenberg, Haas gets an experienced driver as he has raced extensively in Formula 1. Present in the sport since 2010, he has participated in 181 races. He also had a stint at Le Mans in 2015, where he won with Porsche.
