Stoffel Vandoorne becomes a test driver for Aston Martin
The Belgian has been announced as a test driver within the Aston Martin team in 2023. He is thus leaving Mercedes.
A page is turning. After several seasons with Mercedes, Stoffel Vandoorne will be joining Aston Martin. The 2021-2022 Formula E World Champion will keep the same position he had within the German team, which is that of a test driver.
« It is incredibly exciting to embark on a reserve driver role in Formula 1, and I am thrilled to do it with Aston Martin. I have been observing with great interest how the team has developed and expanded operationally, and I know how incredibly determined they are to progress in all areas », the Belgian assures.
Joining Fernando, whom I already know thanks to my Formula 1 career, and Lance, to help develop and improve next year’s car, will be an amazing job, and I’m really looking forward to taking on the challenge – and enjoying the reward – of working with the organization at Silverstone.
The former F1 driver at McLaren will share his work with the F2 2022 champion, Felipe Drugovich. The Belgian is expected to focus on the simulation and intensive development program.
