The F1 is reportedly working on a championship dedicated to young women drivers
The greatest discipline of world motorsport is considering creating a championship for women. It should not compete with the W Series.
Formula 1 could see two women-exclusive championships being contested. This year, the W Series did not reach its conclusion due to financial constraints. Jamie Chadwick, therefore, clinched the champion title for the third consecutive year.
The goal of this championship is to propel women into the global auto sport, but none have succeeded yet. In an attempt to correct this, Formula 1 is considering creating its own championship for women.
“We are committed to ensuring greater opportunities for talented women drivers to progress.”
Contrary to the W Series, this one should be reserved for younger drivers than in the existing championship and would use Formula 4 cars. The objective is to be at the base of the pyramid, allowing access to the premier category.
A dozen cars should be making up the grid with teams present in F3 and F2. However, for the moment, no official source confirms the information.
“We are committed to ensuring greater opportunities for talented female drivers to progress and reach the highest levels,” said a spokesperson for F1, who added that the premier category will provide more details on its projects in due course.
For now, it is uncertain whether the W Series will return for a fourth season.
