The FIA confirms procedural errors at Suzuka

A picture that brought back bad memories. During the Japanese Grand Prix, Carlos Sainz went off track on the first lap. The accident required the intervention of the safety car, and then the red flag was waved.

As the race had just been neutralized only a few seconds ago, Pierre Gasly arrived at the scene of the accident. He had the unpleasant surprise of coming across a crane, while the visibility was reduced due to the rain. The latter was busy towing the Spanish driver’s Ferrari.

His presence on the track was not appreciated by a large part of the paddock, knowing that a similar incident had cost Jules Bianchi’s life on the same circuit in 2014. After the race, an investigation was launched and the World Motor Sport Council, which met on Wednesday, October 19, confirmed that procedural issues had been identified.

However, we will have to wait to know the final conclusions of the investigation.

As indicated shortly after the race, the FIA has undertaken a thorough analysis of the incidents that occurred during the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka. Procedural issues have been identified and will be addressed in the short and medium term. The findings will be made public in the coming days, the FIA states.
