Nicholas Latifi scored his first points of the season
The Canadian, who is living his last moments in Formula 1, finished in a respectable ninth place.
The performance has somewhat been overlooked. Behind the controversies regarding the crane’s intervention to clear Carlos Sainz and the surprising finale that gave the title to Max Verstappen, Nicholas Latifi has been forgotten.
Last race, the Canadian took advantage of the various incidents on the track and a perfect strategy to finally score his first points of the season. Up until now, he was the only driver on the grid with a blank scorecard.
“The start of the race was quite challenging with the red flag (due to the rain) and the delays, and I think we made the right decision to stop immediately at the pit to change to Intermediate tires, which was crucial to overtake the cars in front of us,” said the Williams driver after the race.
At the end of the race, I struggled a lot with my tires, but I am extremely happy to have been able to hang on and score my first points of the season. Overall, I am really happy for the team, and it’s good for morale.
This performance gives him arguments to hope for a seat next year, especially since he won’t be among the Williams drivers. The team announced earlier that they will not retain him for 2023.
