Fernando Alonso comfortable with his Alpine in the Japanese rain

After the disappointment in Singapore, the Japanese Grand Prix starts off well for Alpine. Last weekend, both cars retired from the race, allowing McLaren to take fourth place in the constructors’ championship.

In Japan, the French team is ready to react and take back what is rightfully theirs. Hostilities started this morning during the first practice session. Fernando Alonso set the fastest time. Behind the wheel, the two-time world champion was satisfied with his car.

To be honest, I always prefer it when it’s dry. The car performed well during both sessions today, and being able to snatch the first place at the end of Free Practice 1 was a good thing. I’m looking forward to tomorrow. We’ll see what we’ll be able to do in potentially dry conditions, assures the Spaniard.

Esteban Ocon, who has achieved performances close to his teammate, described the same sensations. With both Alpine drivers currently in the top 10 in each session, the French team is capable of securing fourth place in the championship. However, points are distributed on Sundays and both cars will need to demonstrate reliability.
