Mick Schumacher confident about his contract extension despite his accident

An accident that happens at the wrong time? During the first lap on the Suzuka track, Mick Schumacher made a mistake, caught out by aquaplaning. The off-track excursion damaged his Haas and prevented him from taking part in the second practice session.

The situation is far from ideal for the son of the seven-time world champion. The number 47 driver is in the midst of negotiations with his team to extend his contract. This accident happens at the worst possible moment, considering that there is tough competition to take his seat.

For the main person involved, this incident would have no impact on the discussions. I have been facing pressure for a while now. And I would even say that has been the case my whole life. So it doesn’t bother me. On the other hand, I always want to do my best, no matter what happened before. We take things one step at a time, and now we have the FP3 tomorrow, then the qualifiers. We would have been fourth without the traffic in the last sector. It seemed very promising. And the rain really suits our current car, Mick Schumacher said.

I would be surprised if such a criterion affects my chances. The performances we have shown are there. We have constantly been in the game, and there are still Saturday and Sunday, where we can hope to stay in it. We hope for points on Sunday.

The German finished in seventh place in the first practice session and will only return to the track for the third session.
