Discussions between Haas and Mick Schumacher are underway
Günther Steiner, director of the Haas team, revealed that discussions are underway with Mick Schumacher. The German could sign on for another season.
It is never too late. Until now, negotiations for the second Haas seat had not started. The American team did not want to put pressure to choose Kevin Magnussen’s future teammate in 2023.
But, during the Singapore Grand Prix, things started to shake up. According to Günther Steiner, discussions are underway with Mick Schumacher. The German, who is no longer linked to Ferrari, is also facing competition. One of his compatriots is reportedly on the team’s shortlist: Nico Hülkenberg.
« Mick is still on the list, because otherwise we would have already made a decision. We just need to see what the best decision is for the team in the future, assured the Haas boss to Sky Sports F1.
Our list includes drivers who have a Superlicense and we are looking at all of them. Nico [Hülkenberg] is one of them. I don’t know yet when we will make the decision, we have no deadline, we will make the decision when we are ready.
The Silly Season is currently in full swing with the extension of Yuki Tsunoda, the potential departure of Pierre Gasly to Alpine, who would be replaced by Nyck de Vries. Daniel Ricciardo, on the other hand, would be heading towards the role of third Mercedes driver. The second Williams seat is also available.
