Pirelli brings its hardest tires to Suzuka
The Italian manufacturer expects the tires to endure on one of the most demanding tracks in terms of the loads sustained.
If it is one of the favorite layouts for drivers, it is not the case for tires. The Suzuka circuit, renowned for its fast and twisty first sector and its 130R corner, brings joy to the drivers but not so much to the tires.
These turns prove difficult for the tire, and for this reason, Pirelli has decided to bring its C1, C2, and C3 compounds, the hardest in its range. « The stresses are evenly distributed throughout the car. However, the loads supported by the tires are among the highest measured throughout the year. Due to the shape of the track and the characteristics of the asphalt, we are bringing the three hardest compounds in our range », assures Mario Isola, the director of Pirelli.
The challenge is becoming increasingly demanding, as the latest generation single-seaters are heavier than the previous ones and the performance is constantly improving.
According to the Italian company, the lateral forces and the stress encountered by the tires during the race are very high. The Japanese track is also very abrasive according to the manufacturer. These characteristics justify the choice of hard tires.
