George Russell will start from the pits in Singapore
The British driver made a number of changes to his Mercedes. These modifications were made under Parc Fermé, and he will start from the pit lane.
Complicated weekend for George Russell. First eliminated in Q2, the British driver will not start in the expected position. The Mercedes driver has changed several components on his car, under Parc Fermé conditions, and will therefore have to start from the pit lane.
Thus, a new engine, turbo, MGU-H, MGU-K, new batteries and an electronic control unit have been installed on driver number 63’s W13.
« All components of George Russell’s power unit have been replaced without the approval of the FIA technical delegate, which is not in compliance with article 40.3 of the 2022 Formula Sporting Regulations. Therefore, car number 63 should now be required to start the race from the pit lane in accordance with article 40.9 b) of the 2022 Formula One Sporting Regulations, states the FIA in a statement.
So it’s a race of attack and opportunism that awaits Lewis Hamilton’s teammate. He, who was initially supposed to start from 11th place.
