A brake issue ruins Esteban Ocon’s qualification
The French driver, in the rhythm all weekend, missed out on his qualification. He was eliminated in Q1 due to a braking issue.
Esteban Ocon will start the Singapore Grand Prix from 18th place. However, throughout the weekend, whether on dry or wet conditions, the pace displayed by the French driver behind the wheel of his Alpine was good. He consistently ranked in the top 10 in all three practice sessions.
But, the qualifications didn’t go as well. Esteban Ocon was eliminated in the first phase. On my side of the garage, it was a difficult qualifying session and I am disappointed to have been knocked out in Q1, especially since we have had a good pace since the beginning of the weekend, he stated after his session.
I felt a problem with the brakes, which has marred our session today. The positive point is that the car is competitive and the goal now is to take advantage of it to make our way towards points tomorrow. Overtaking is difficult here, but as always, we will do everything to achieve a good overall result.
If he wants to score points and maintain the advantage in the rankings against his teammate, Esteban Ocon will have to take risks to climb back up the hierarchy.
