Towards a Grand Prix in Colombia?
The mayor of the city of Barranquilla in Colombia states that discussions are underway to host a Grand Prix in 2024. A 10-year contract could be signed.
Formula 1 could take a new direction. After Qatar and Las Vegas, which will be added to the calendar next year, a new country could be added to the list. In 2024, Colombia could be included in the calendar, this is what Barranquilla mayor Jaime Pumarejo affirms.
What we can say is that the process is going very well. Progress has been made in all the previous stages, before a final decision is made. They have already come to the city and found it very good, he explained in an interview with Blu Radio.
Two circuits under consideration.
The official assures that hosting a race in his city would cost nothing to the community. On the contrary, hosting the Grand Prix would give a boost to the economy, employment, and the attractiveness of the city.
According to the first magistrate, two routes have been identified for the race that would be called the Caribbean Grand Prix. On one of the routes, the river is present, on the other it is not. But both are located in the metropolitan area of Barranquilla. We hope that, if everything that is missing is finalized, we could be talking about 2024 or 2025 and it would be signed for 10 years.
With one more event on the calendar, we would gradually be heading towards a 30-round season, as Stefano Domenicali hoped.
