Fernando Alonso envisions reaching the milestone of 400 Grand Prix
Since the Italian Grand Prix, the Spaniard is now co-holder of the number of starts in Formula 1. He aims to push the mark even higher.
It is a milestone that had only been reached once before. The 350 Formula 1 Grand Prix barrier was unimaginable just a few years ago, but Kimi Räikkönen managed to reach it. More recently, Fernando Alonso also joined the former Ferrari and Alfa Romeo driver at the Italian Grand Prix.
If the two men have 350 races under their belt, the Spaniard will increase his score as he still has the entire end of the season to compete in and he is still under contract with Aston Martin next year.
The double world champion, for his part, sees himself reaching the 400th Grand Prix. « I know the number because it’s constantly repeated every weekend, but it doesn’t interest me that much. I’m happy to have been in Formula 1 for so long, with two more years to come, and I don’t know how long I’ll stay beyond that. I will reach 400, that’s for sure; it’s a large number. It shows my passion for this sport and my discipline to perform at a high level. If a driver isn’t performing well, the team won’t give him 400 Grand Prix, that’s for sure », assures the current Alpine driver.
In history, only four other drivers have reached 300 races and in this list, only Lewis Hamilton could reach the level of Kimi Räikkönen and Fernando Alonso. The British driver has participated in 304 events and does not see himself stopping Formula 1 anytime soon.
