George Russell: “They were too fast ahead, we did what we could do”
George Russell clinches another podium this season. The Briton highlights the pace shown by Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc.
Discreet race, but the result is there. George Russell benefited from the numerous penalties of the drivers to start second in the Italian Grand Prix. However, he was quickly overtaken by Max Verstappen and ended up in third place.
The Mercedes driver displayed a solid pace and an original strategy with hard tires, one of the few to use them. The intervention of the safety car towards the end of the race allowed him to keep his podium position, as Carlos Sainz was closing in quickly behind him.
« We were able to keep this podium today. We will have to look at the last three races, but we have accumulated the podiums, which is a good thing. They were too fast ahead [Verstappen and Leclerc], we did what we could do.
