Nyck de Vries voted Driver of the Day at Monza
The Dutchman scored points for his first Grand Prix. He earned two points, pushing Nicholas Latifi back to 21st place in the standings.
Express. If this Friday, we assured Nyck de Vries that he would be driving for the Italian Grand Prix and that he would score his first points, he would never have believed it. Yet, that’s exactly what happened.
Dutchman replaced Alex Albon, who underwent an appendicitis surgery at Williams, at short notice. After just one practice session in the Grove car, he managed to make it to Q2 and start eighth, thanks to the penalties.
His race was very solid as he stayed in the points zone for a long time. After battling with Guanyu Zhou for 10th place, he managed to widen the gap on the Chinese driver. Towards the end of the race, he took advantage of Daniel Ricciardo’s retirement to gain another position and score two points.
His performance relegates his co-driver for the day, Nicholas Latifi, to 21st place in the drivers’ standings.
