For Alonso, Alpine is on a good streak
Alpine remains in the points for 11 consecutive races, which is enough to satisfy Fernando Alonso.
Alpine is in great shape. The French team is stringing together good results. In the past 11 races, the team managed by Otmar Szafnauer has consistently been in the points and in the last 11 races, both drivers have scored points on eight occasions.
However, Alpine has been affected by reliability issues, especially in Australia, Great Britain, and Austria, which have cost the team valuable points.
The podium is still a bit far.
« I think we are on a good streak now. We have found consistency even though these last 10 races haven’t completely gotten us out of trouble. In Barcelona, we changed the engine and started last. In Austria, the car didn’t start the sprint race and we started last Sunday, so we still need to improve certain things to have completely clean weekends, and if we do, we will probably be in the points in future races », stated Fernando Alonso in a press conference this Thursday in Monza.
Asked about his chances of reaching the podium, the double world champion believes it could only happen in the event of unexpected incidents or if many drivers are penalized.
I think we are in the same place we have been throughout the year. I think we are just behind the top three teams, so our natural position, let’s say, is seventh and eighth, so we always need the help of the cars ahead of us. Sometimes, there are penalties like in Spa and we start third on the grid. Here, there are other penalties coming with Carlos and Lewis, I heard, so we might have a better starting position, but lately in the race, we finally ended up in our natural position.
