Mick Schumacher has other options for 2023 besides Haas
Mick Schumacher's relationship with Ferrari is set to end in December, which means the German will be a free agent as he looks for a Formula 1 seat for the 2023 season.
The original contract of Schumacher with the Ferrari Driver Academy will come to a “natural end” after this season.
Although there has been no official confirmation from Haas, it is widely believed in the paddock that Schumacher may not be retained by the American team for a third season in 2023, with Antonio Giovinazzi currently being the favorite to secure the seat alongside Kevin Magnussen. This is what Adam Cooper reveals in the pages of Motorsport.
Opportunities at Alpine, AlphaTauri, or Williams?
The remaining seats on the grid include Alpine and Williams. The German driver can count on significant support as he is close to Esteban Ocon.
He has also been associated with AlphaTauri, although Colton Herta has now emerged as a more likely candidate, at least favored by the Red Bull program and Helmut Marko.
It is possible that Schumacher may lose his place in Formula 1 in the coming days, potentially leaving Germany without a representative on the grid in 2023, unless Nico Hülkenberg is chosen by Alpine, which, to this date, remains unlikely.
Schumacher was at one point presented as a potential driver for Ferrari in the future, but the support he was receiving within the Italian camp has diminished in recent times.
With Charles Leclerc and more recently Carlos Sainz locked in with long-term contracts at the Scuderia, it has become evident that there would be no seat in sight for Schumacher.
Furthermore, Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu are also expected to stay in Ferrari’s partner team, Alfa Romeo. The Chinese driver is set to be confirmed for 2023 shortly. As part of their current agreement with Sauber, the sponsor no longer has priority over one of the seats for a Ferrari-affiliated driver.
