“The Classic” at Silverstone will showcase around twenty historical F1 cars

The high-revving V8, V10, and V12 powertrains introduced in the late 1980s to replace their turbocharged predecessors are widely hailed as the most spectacular and exciting engines in the long and glorious history of the sport.

The Classic will bring together up to 20 icons of Formula 1 (dating from 1989 to 1997). They will participate in the event by giving daily demonstrations on the track where they raced so memorably at the time.

During this impressive era, the British Grand Prix at Silverstone was won by legends such as Nigel Mansell, Alain Prost, Damon Hill, and Michael Schumacher who drove sharp McLaren, Williams, and Ferrari cars powered by extreme engines ultimately revving up to 20,000 RPM and producing nearly 1,000 horsepower.

All these icons of Formula 1, as well as Benetton, Lotus, Jordans, Tyrrells, should be part of these track demos. It will be the very first time that a complete grid of these automotive tops will roll together at Silverstone since their glory days.

“We have brought back the incredible noise, energy, and thrill of these wonderful cars so that people can experience it once again – or perhaps for the very first time – and we couldn’t be more excited about it,” said Jonathan Kennard, former F1 test driver who is one of the founders of Ignition GP, the organizing body of the event.

This event bringing together historic pieces of Formula 1 history should bring together generations, those who experienced this era and new enthusiasts. The event will give participants access to the race paddocks as well as the open grandstands on the edge of the track, but also to celebrations and family attractions.
