Giovinazzi in FP1 at Monza and Austin with Haas
The reserve driver from Scuderia Ferrari will be able to get a feel for the new cars. He will replace Mick Schumacher and Kevin Magnussen for Free Practice 1 in Monza and Austin.
Italian driver Antonio Giovinazzi will be behind the wheel of the VF-22 at Monza and Austin. The American team will host the reserve driver from Ferrari for FP1. With 62 starts in the premier category, the 28-year-old driver already has Formula 1 experience. In fact, this won’t be his first time in the Haas garage, as he has already been a driver on seven occasions for the team, dating back to 2017.
Antonio Giovinazzi stated: “I am very happy to have the chance to drive in Formula 1 again. Apart from the simulator, it is very important to test a real car and I am very eager to put on the suit and helmet again. This will be an opportunity to gain confidence with this new generation of cars.”
The team principal, Günther Steiner, added: “We are happy to welcome Antonio Giovinazzi back to the team for two free practice sessions. Ferrari was looking to give Antonio some track time during a race weekend, and we are happy to assist them.”
« We experienced a similar situation in 2017 with Antonio and Ferrari, the difference is that he now has a lot of experience and has become more competitive thanks to his last three years in Formula 1. He will be able to give us good feedback on the car. »
Antonio Giovinazzi joined Alfa Romeo in 2019. He was then the first Italian to compete in a full season since 2011. He had scored 21 points in the drivers’ standings before losing his seat to Guanyu Zhou.
