According to Franz Tost, Max Verstappen can be even stronger
The former boss of Max Verstappen speaks highly of the Dutchman. He states that he is an experienced driver but has not yet reached his "prime".
Max Verstappen is a man who loves to break records. Upon his arrival in Formula 1, he became the youngest driver in the sport, and shortly after, the youngest winner. And these two milestones will never be surpassed due to the new rules for entering the premier category.
If the Dutchman has reached where he is currently, it is thanks to his natural talent for competition. « I met Max for the first time with his father at the Nürburgring. At that time, he was still karting. The next time was at Norisring in Formula 3. In the rain, he was driving in a league of his own, as if he was the only one who had discovered a dry line », says Franz Tost, former boss of Max Verstappen at Toro Rosso, to our colleagues at F1insider.
An aggressive but talented pilot.
« He immediately reminded me of Michael Schumacher. You could see what a mega talent he was. Then, we had to endure criticism when we entrusted him with the Toro Rosso at the age of 17, someone who didn’t even have a driver’s license. But he finished his first testing session at Suzuka, on one of the most challenging tracks of all, and he handled it with confidence.

The Austrian driver claims that the defending world champion is one of the best current drivers and that only Charles Leclerc, his championship rival, can compete with him. He softens his statement by indicating that during his first laps in F1, he was too aggressive and caused accidents, like the one with Romain Grosjean in Monaco. Franz Tost remains nevertheless certain about one thing. Today, he is performing at a very high level, and yet we haven’t seen his full potential yet.
If the boss of AlphaTauri is telling the truth, the Dutchman could go on to achieve numerous other records, victories, podiums, and titles in his career.
