Hamilton sets another record: 487 laps led on the same circuit!

Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes are back in the spotlight. After a difficult start to the season, and a car concept they struggled to make work, the German team seems to be gradually finding the formula.

Hungary is a good track for Lewis Hamilton as he holds the record for most wins on this circuit with a total of eight successes. This circuit also allowed him to achieve a new record, that of the number of laps led on the same track. The previous record was 67 years old and was held by Bill Vukovich, the IndyCar legend.

A few months ago, the British driver was eliminated in Q1 in Jeddah and described his car as undriveable. It was then difficult to imagine Mercedes returning to the forefront this season with the new regulations, considering how far behind they started.

And yet, here they are back in the spotlight. The team was able to take advantage of the other teams’ reliability issues to score valuable points. Lewis Hamilton climbed onto the podium for the fifth consecutive time and even had the opportunity to lead the race for four laps. He had already led a Grand Prix this season, it was at Silverstone.

The British driver is always hungry, even at 37 years old, the driver still seems to want more and continues to leave his mark on the sport every day. This season, despite a car that doesn’t allow him to fight for the championship, he has added new lines to his record. 16th consecutive season in which he has led a Grand Prix, surpassing Schumacher’s record, the milestone of 100 victories in Formula 1 achieved at the Russian Grand Prix, he now has 103 successes. He has also become the second driver to step on the podium after participating in 300 Grand Prix, joining Fernando Alonso.

In a season that seemed to be thrown in the trash, it is finally possible to see Lewis Hamilton and the Silver Arrows challenging Ferrari to secure second place in the constructors’ standings, and even breaking new records and why not, a victory in the last nine Grand Prix…
