Laurent Rossi would like to see Piastri and Alonso in F1

It’s Alpine’s puzzle. Three drivers for only two cars. While Esteban Ocon’s contract is guaranteed until 2024, Fernando Alonso’s contract ends by the end of the year. Discussions are underway between Alpine and the Spanish driver, although the serious talks are expected to start after the summer break.

But Alpine has a third driver, Oscar Piastri, who dreams of a seat in F1. Yes, but for now, it seems that no place is becoming available. However, the CEO of Alpine, Laurent Rossi, expresses confidence in seeing him in the discipline next year, just like Fernando Alonso.

Towards a loan for Piastri?

« Well Fernando, his contract is ending this year, so obviously we are discussing with him. We are building scenarios for him and Oscar [Piastri], as you will probably ask me. The idea is that they are both good drivers, and we would like them to drive next year. »

When asked if both could be in F1 in 2023, the French’s answer is « I think so ». However, if the double world champion were to stay next year, Oscar Piastri could be loaned to another team if a spot became available.

« I would be ready to loan Oscar to a team as long as I can get him back. We have invested a lot in Oscar, we believe in him, that’s why he is our reserve driver. He is a very promising talent, and we would like to keep this talent in the team. So, a loan, like many other drivers who start in a team to learn the tricks, and then come back to us would be a good scenario.

2023 could then be the year of the Australian’s arrival in the discipline, as he has been waiting for his permanent seat for some time.
