Riccardo Patrese is going to take the wheel again
The former driver will be piloting the Brabham BT52, this Saturday, in Austria.
A former driver cannot resist driving. As soon as he has the opportunity to get back in one of his old single-seaters, he does it. And this Saturday, it will be Riccardo Patrese who will take the wheel of the Brabham BT52.
This is what the Italian announced on his Facebook page, Friday afternoon. Only the seat fitting today! Tomorrow, the serious stuff will start and I will be back on the track with the BT52, he specified.
This single-seater was imagined and designed by Gordon Murray and was used for the 1983 season. Nelson Piquet and Riccardo Patrese were at the wheel that year, and the Brazilian won the world championship title with it. The two drivers had four victories in total (three for Piquet and one for Patrese). In 1983, Brabham-BMW finished the constructor’s championship in third place.
The BT52 was powered by a 1,500 cc inline 4-cylinder BMW engine with a maximum output of 1,250 horsepower. Fully made of fibers, the Formula One car weighed only 540 kilograms on the scale. Starting from the British Grand Prix, it was replaced by the BT52B.
