For Toto Wolff, it is too early to talk about an extension for 2024
Lewis Hamilton is under contract with Mercedes until 2023, but his boss Toto Wolff claims it's too early to discuss an extension for 2024.
The love story has been going on since 2013. In nine seasons of relationship between Mercedes and Hamilton, successes and titles have accumulated. In total, the duo has won six championship titles and eight constructor titles.
The contract that binds the two parties is valid until the end of the 2023 season. This leaves plenty of time for the Briton to further enhance his track record with his team.
While there is still a little over a year remaining on the seven-time world champion’s contract with Mercedes, Toto Wolff indicates that he has not discussed a potential extension with Lewis Hamilton for 2024.
« Do we really need to start talking about the 2024 contracts in June 2022? We are happy with Lewis, and there is no doubt that we are embarking on this season and the following season under favorable auspices. But I think it is too early to talk about 2024. That being said, I couldn’t wish for a better duo of drivers », indicated the executive director of the German brand, on the F1 website.
The Austrian driver also emphasizes the relationship he has with George Russell and their work within the team, which is currently struggling compared to previous years.
I can say that within the team, Lewis has always been very positive in his mindset and the way both of them work together is truly amazing. During the briefings, they constantly ask each other questions and I suppose it would be different if we were fighting at the front.
