Vettel’s t-shirt is annoying Canadian leaders

We have known Sebastian Vettel supporting the LGBTQ+ community. We have known Sebastian Vettel caring about the environment by building a hotel for bees. We also know the Sebastian Vettel who denounces the exploitation of oil sands.

This Thursday, the Aston Martin driver appeared in the paddock with a t-shirt where it was written “Stop oil sands exploitation. Canada’s crime.” The German explained that what is happening in Alberta (region of Canada) is a crime. Because you are cutting down a lot of trees and essentially destroying the place just to extract oil, and the way to do it with oil sands, the exploitation of oil sands, is terrible for nature.

The fact of wearing a garment like this has sparked reactions from certain political personalities, notably Alberta’s Minister of Energy, Sonya Savage, who considers their behavior hypocritical, given that their team is sponsored by an oil giant (Aramco).

« Saudi Aramco has the highest daily oil production of any company in the world. It is renowned for being the largest contributor to global carbon emissions of any company since 1965. Instead of demonizing tar sands, which are on the path to net-zero, people could seek to reduce their own personal carbon footprint. Maybe a pedal-powered car for Formula 1? », she wrote on Twitter.

Through his actions, the four-time world champion is not just making friends.
